Apartment Wittenberg

Apartment 001 was the worst place I've ever stayed. There was no Wi-Fi, and the single heater behind the TV on the dresser barely warmed the room. The lighting was dim, the walls were dirty, and everything felt ancient. There was nowhere to hang clothes, and the kitchenette had just three electrical outlets. The bathroom was gruesome, with mold, dirt, and limescale everywhere. The bed frame had loads of disgusting hairs from strangers, while the pillows and blankets were yellow with sweat stains. The curtains were dirty too, covered in stains of who knows what. Towels had insect legs on them and were barely fit for mopping the floor. We got just one pair of towels between two people for five weeks. Zero stars, with plenty more negatives.

Disaster. The flooring looks about 50 years old, and the walls throughout are dirty. The bathroom wasn't clean either. Of the windows, only one opens fully; the others can't be opened because the ceiling is too low.

I stay in at least 80 different apartments a year, and this was easily my worst experience in recent years. The noise alone was a lot: church bells every 10 minutes, twelve rings on the hour, then a garbage truck right outside at exactly 6:00 a.m. The cobblestone street was incredibly loud, especially with car tires on it. The room also smelled like someone had died there months ago and lain there for weeks. Everything was filthy, and the bathroom was disgusting. The shower was basically unusable, its head completely blocked with limescale and its holder broken. The mattresses were small but relatively okay. The sheet, though, was paper-thin, full of holes, and covered in disgusting brown stains. It looked like it'd been washed 400 times, and with that smell I couldn't tell if it was fresh or had been used repeatedly. A Booking.com deal brought the night to €52, but I don't understand why they don't charge €10 more and put it toward cleanliness and the room's condition. I wouldn't take it for free next time. I absolutely can't recommend this apartment.

We spent five days here as a couple, and everything was satisfactory. The only problem was the Wi-Fi: we couldn't use it from the day we arrived, apparently because a previous guest had used up the whole allowance.
