My weekend nearly ended up completely ruined. I booked specifically because Booking.com said the hotel had a sauna and an outdoor swimming pool. I couldn’t cancel under Booking.com’s policy, and only after I’d booked and paid did an email say the sauna had to be booked separately. It’s in a different building and technically has nothing to do with the hotel. The pool, listed as free, is part of the sauna and can’t be used unless you’ve booked the sauna. Naturally, all the sauna slots were taken when we arrived. Other hotels also list saunas and pools, but this one claims to have facilities it technically doesn’t. Usually, if a hotel advertises a sauna and pool, guests can use them. Otherwise, I don’t see how it can claim those facilities when they’re in a separate building and require a separate booking. I didn’t find this out until after paying. When I raised it with the staff, we argued over whose responsibility it was. They said it was mine and that they couldn’t do anything because the sauna is a separate entity. They also refused to refund the hotel cost, which I would have preferred so I could stay somewhere else. After some bickering and annoyed phone conversations, they offered me a free 1.5-hour sauna visit. The sauna itself was really nice, but in normal circumstances, booking a hotel with a sauna and pool would let you use them for more than 1.5 hours. The Booking.com room photos didn’t match the actual rooms either. The “double room with private bathroom” had six photos, all showing different rooms that were much bigger and nicer than the one I got. Otherwise, the hotel was very clean, the room had all the necessary appliances, and it had some nice personal touches. Still, it didn’t feel like good value to me. I paid 136 euro per night for a small room with a tiny window looking toward someone else’s window. The location was all right but nothing special enough to explain the price. I don’t know whether the hotel or Booking.com was responsible for the inaccurate and misleading information, but please be careful when booking this place. The information on Booking.com is very inaccurate.

It’s clean, comfortable, welcoming and affordable. This family-run place is getting so rare, and it’s much nicer for that. It’s within walking distance of the Operhouse, so handy if you’re going to see a performance.
