Phoenix Copenhagen

We celebrated our anniversary over the weekend of May 10th 2026. The staff were super friendly, and breakfast was very good, clean, and complete. The hotel's main strength is its superb location. Marmorkirken metro, Amaliënborg, and Nyhavn are all within a three-minute walk. It could have been a five-star stay if not for our room on the fourth floor. It was too small, and so was the bed.

The location is really good, breakfast was nice, and the bed was fairly comfortable. After that, though, things went downhill. As a solo traveler, I paid about $250 a night for a single twin in a tiny room. I live near NYC, which is even pricier than Copenhagen, and that room wouldn't cost more than $125 a night there. The first floor had a strong chemical smell, which someone called formaldehyde, and I agree. My room smelled musty and moldy, like an old moldy book. I kept the window open the whole stay, which thankfully freshened it up, but I can't imagine staying there in colder months. When I first walked in, I was coughing a lot and my throat was burning. Housekeeping came in without knocking at 9:15 AM. The hotel also wouldn't prepare a to-go breakfast box for my early departure, even though I asked a full day ahead. Apparently putting a croissant and hard-boiled egg in a box was too much. I've been able to get one elsewhere in Europe, including Germany, France, and Italy. They also don't refund breakfast for a prepaid day when they won't serve it. At check-in and other times, reception was kind of useless for information or help. They acted like answering my questions was a favor, instead of part of the job. Next time, I'd pay a little more for Marriott or NH Collection. I visited a friend at the latter and it was incredible, like the other NH properties I've stayed at. I like supporting local boutique hotels when I travel, but it's hard when this is the service they provide.

Even though we were only there briefly, we had a really pleasant stay. The place and its quality felt well worth the price, especially given the superb location. Breakfast was the one thing that could use a little more variety, perhaps with some local options.

We found the rooms clean and comfortable, and the staff friendly and professional. Phoenix Copenhagen has a classic, elegant feel, and getting around from its very central location was easy. Breakfast had a good range, too.
