The room was clean and perfectly fine for a night or two, though getting up the steep stairs could be tough if you have knee problems. There’s no elevator. Breakfast was served at the hotel where I picked up the key, and it was great. The key pickup was about 300 away, but that wasn’t clear from the confirmation. After returning, I couldn’t unlock the front door, so I had to go back to the hotel for the entry code. At checkout I was a little irritated to be charged 50 DKK for parking, but paid. I later checked my booking in the car and saw it clearly said parking was free. I went back to show the receptionist, but she couldn’t resolve it and asked me to return in two hours when her colleague would be there. By then we were already heading back to Sweden. They said they’d email me, but I still haven’t heard anything. 50 DKK isn’t a lot, but it’s the principle. It wasn’t right.

The hotel is well located, and the room itself was adequate, though the bathroom was basic. You have to collect the room key and entry code from the hotel about 300 meters away. If your room faces the pedestrian street, the noise is a real problem. On Saturday at 2:00 AM, I couldn’t sleep at all. There must be a bar nearby, since I could hear bass and people talking very loudly. Great for insomniacs.

The rooms are on the small side, but the location is central. You pick up the key card and get breakfast at Hotel Herman Bang, a little way down the pedestrian street.

I was upgraded to one of the nicer rooms, which was really fresh and well worth the money. It was a very nice room, though not soundproof, which was great. Breakfast was good apart from there being no white bread. When I visit Fredrikshavn, I won’t stay anywhere else.
