Hvide Sande Hotel

The parking could be organized better, but the lounge has complimentary wine and coffee. My room was spacious, with a large bathroom, and the hotel was one of the cleanest I’ve ever stayed in.

The location is handy, with the beach and restaurants within walking distance and other beaches and sights only a short drive away. Parking is free; when the lot gets full, street parking is available without trouble. The self-service setup might not suit everybody, since the receptionist isn’t always there, but we got a great introduction and managed fine by ourselves. Our room was decent, the beds were comfortable, and the shower worked well. There’s no air conditioning, but fans are provided. The sink is small, though the cupboard underneath has room for things. Breakfast comes in a carton from the local bakery with sandwiches and cake, ready to pick up any time from 06.00. There are no keys or cards for the door, just a code that worked well. Coffee, tea, and wine are available for free in the dining room whenever you like.

For a quick weekend away, the room was fine for the two of us, with two small beds, a desk, two chairs, a TV, a little nightstand, and a closet. The bathroom was decent and the shower was great, though there was nowhere to put toiletries. Breakfast came in a lunch box with Danish-style pastry, bread, butter, jam, and a slice each of cheese and meat. Getting in was confusing: we spent about ten minutes at the automatic machine trying to get a keycard, and still aren’t sure how it works. A friendly couple staying there let us through the doors, where we found an envelope with our name and room number. I didn’t see anyone who seemed to work at the hotel, so you’re largely on your own. It could suit a short weekend, but for a longer stay I might pay more for somewhere else.

A simple, feel-good hotel in a great location. We loved staying here, and the customer service was both friendly and very capable.
