The pool, restaurants, and dive centre gave us plenty to enjoy, and the seaside setting made the stay feel like a proper island getaway. I especially appreciated how the hotel’s historic fort character has been paired with recently renovated rooms and updated amenities. My room was comfortable, clean, and nicely furnished, with views that made both mornings and evenings special. Right on the waterfront in Roseau, it was also a great base for exploring the capital and catching Caribbean sunsets. The staff were a real highlight. They were welcoming, friendly, and quick to help. Things can move slowly in Dominica, and there were moments when service felt a little slow, but the team’s warmth and professionalism more than made up for it. I’d happily recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Dominica who wants history, comfort, and a seaside stay.

We spent a week at Fort Young at the end of January with a diving group. The oceanview room was beautiful, and the balcony chairs were comfortable enough to sit in and take in the view. The beds were good, the shower had strong pressure and plenty of hot water, and we liked the food too. There were lots of choices and everything we tried was good. The dive shop made the week especially fun. Our guides and boat captains were friendly, took time to point things out underwater, and made the surface intervals enjoyable. At the end of the stay, my partner needed to go to the hospital. The hotel drove us there and did what they could to help with the doctors. They brought blankets, pillows, and food when we needed it, stayed in touch the whole time, and had security pick us up when we were ready to return. Even though we got back late, they made sure food was delivered to our room. Thanks to Billy & Jeff and everyone at fort young for making a stressful situation easier, and to the dive shop crew for a great week.

Dominica feels untouched, and the tours from the hotel were amazing, even better than the ones I took in Maui and Oahu. I loved diving here too, with all the coral and marine life, and the hotel and dive shop staff make you feel like family. Fort young is in a peaceful spot with a beautiful view, and I’ve stayed at 5 star hotels that didn’t compare. I’ll definitely come back with my family. My one complaint is the lack of lounge chairs around the pool and hot tub. I also hope my family can manage the island’s narrow, winding, steep roads. This is the safest island, with the nicest people, and I can’t wait to return.

We had a rental car, and Fort Young’s location made it easy to reach points of interest around Dominica. It’s also right downtown on the harbour, so you can watch cruise ships come and go and walk to plenty of places in Roseau. The hotel is perhaps the premier place to stay in the capital. My kids and I were there for 8 nights. We liked our balcony room facing the Caribbean Sea better than the first room, which faced inland toward the mountain, though both were first class. Service was friendly and professional, and Vivianna at the concierge desk was especially helpful with planning excursions. We aren’t divers, but we had a great whale watching trip one afternoon and saw several whales and calves. The food was wonderful, and we enjoyed the pool, hot tub, other amenities, and first rate gym facilities. We highly recommend Fort Young hotel for a visit to Dominica.

We spent a week at the Fort Young Hotel in mid-February for Carnival, and getting around to the festivities was easy because of the location. The stay started smoothly, with airport transport arranged ahead of time and a warm check-in. We were given a top-floor oceanfront room, where we could watch cruise ships arrive and feel the sea breeze. The bedding was comfortable, the furnishings tasteful, and the room was a peaceful place to rest after exploring. The staff were the best part. Bernadette was so warm and personable. We ran into her outside the hotel while looking for somewhere to eat, and she took us to her aunt’s restaurant for traditional Dominican broth. She looked after us and greeted us warmly whenever we saw her after that. Viviana (Concierge) was also attentive and very helpful with the tours and making sure things ran smoothly. We ate well throughout the stay, and the prices were fair compared with many resort hotels. Breakfast was included and had a wide spread: sweet breads, waffles, pancakes, toast, juice, good coffee, made-to-order eggs at the omelet station, bacon, and sausage. There were also local dishes like saltfish, cocoa tea, baked sweet potato, and plantains, plus plenty of fresh fruit and yogurt. It was a satisfying start to the day and a chance to try local food. We booked a morning snorkel trip through the dive shop, including Champagne Reef, and an afternoon whale-watching trip. Both were great, with a friendly, professional, knowledgeable crew. We saw pilot whales and dolphins, and had some of our best snorkeling of the trip. The hotel also arranged a private island tour to Tutu Gorge, Trafalgar Falls, and hot springs. Clem, our driver, was entertaining and flexible. Trafalgar was crowded, so we changed plans and went to a quieter hot spring. The private tour also cost less than some group tours offered locally, which was a pleasant surprise. Between the comfortable rooms, food, excursions, location, and caring staff, it was a memorable trip. Carnival and Dominica’s natural beauty made it fantastic, and we’d recommend Fort Young Hotel.
