We never got to stay, so I can’t say how the place itself is. After I’d been in touch with Apartahotel, they canceled my reservation. They asked three times about our travel plans so they could sell us a taxi, and I declined each time. They also said payment had to be in cash in USD on arrival. When I asked to see the room before paying, they canceled the booking. It felt opportunistic, and I was an hour away with two children and had to rush to find somewhere else.

The location made everyday errands easy, with restaurants, a dry cleaner, nail and spa salon, barber shops, a pharmacy, and a grocery store all within walking distance. I came to Santiago de los Caballeros for cosmetic dentistry and hadn’t realized it was a hub for cosmetic professionals. The city is also considered the Dominican Republic’s second capital after Santo Domingo. At Aparta Hotel Jardines Metropolitanos, the owner and staff made me feel at home with family, and the rooms were very clean. My stay was great and exceeded what I expected for the price.

Frank was waiting up for us until 4am to make sure we got in safely from the airport. He stayed in touch by phone and talked us in while we drove our rental car. The room was clean and the AC was cranking. We were up at 8:00am for a full day, and Frank had breakfast ready in the cafe: eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, toast, coffee, and juice. There were six kinds of hot sauce on the table, plus a couple of avocados he’d picked from the tree outside after we asked what it was. And somehow I found myself wondering why this was my first morning starting the day with Julio Iglesias almost at full blast. Frank gave us good directions to our next stop in Demajagua, saw us off, then called an hour later to check we were on the right track. Absolutely would stay here again. That’s real hospitality.
