It's peaceful at Sosua by the Sea, with no blaring music or huge crowds. I really enjoyed the calm atmosphere and prefer it to some of the noisier, stuffier alternatives. The location is another underrated plus: central, but tucked on a quiet side street. It's one of Sosua's older hotels and is back with its original owners. They're refreshing the property, including adding sliding balcony doors and windows and standing shower stalls.

The best things here are the location and free parking. The place is decent and well kept, and the rooms are clean, though a bit old. The beds aren't very comfortable, the pool is just okay, and the beach access is tiny. It's expensive, especially with no meals included.

The food is pretty good, but the service is what really stood out. I had a small issue and the staff went out of their way to fix it and make our stay more enjoyable.

I'm back for my second stay at SBS, and it was great seeing all the familiar staff again. One night I had a good late chat with the owner about the challenges of running a business in the DR. The place is rustic but has everything I need. There's good food, plenty of cold beer, and the "new" beech is lovely and sheltered.
