Hostal Tungurahua

The room was comfortable, with two double beds and a set of bunks. The front desk staff were very nice, but didn't speak English. Rooms aren't serviced, so you'll need to ask for fresh towels and toilet paper. It's a little out of town, about a seven-minute walk, and Baños is pretty hilly.

There's a restaurant and parking inside the hotel grounds, and the room has good mountain views. It's at the entrance to baños town, where the cold wind makes it feel colder than in the center. Service was ordinary and the accommodation was so-so.

I was very disappointed by how my missing phone charger was handled. I stayed one night, Jan 28th, 2017. The room was small but fine, and the showers weren't quite what I expected, though they were tolerable. The nighttime receptionist laughed while I tried to explain something in Spanish, but I didn't take that personally since I'm not fluent yet. I'd left my charger plugged into the wall in the room and returned less than 24 hours later, after realizing the next night that I'd forgotten it. I waited at least an hour and a half. They checked the room, and I assume it had been taken out during cleaning. The receptionist spent a long time on Facebook and helping other guests without sorting this out. Later, after going upstairs for half an hour, she came back and told me, “We looked, it is not here.” I'm certain I left it there, and I was furious. I can't accept that a guest's belongings can go missing without even an offer of compensation. Maybe after a week or two you might assume a guest won't return, but I came back in under a day. I wouldn't stay here in Baños. There are many other hotels and hostels on the streets nearby, and with that much competition, behavior like this will cost them business. In my view, they deserve to lose business if their employees are taking things from rooms.

A decent place for the price. The rooms were quiet and comfortable, and breakfast was better than average for hotels in Ecuador.
