Hostal Amaru

The front desk people were really friendly and helpful, and it was nice to have drinking water available. WiFi in the room was middling. The bathroom could use a few more hooks or towel racks. And “pet friendly” means you may hear annoying little dogs barking in the building.

La ubicación es lo único bueno. No lo recomiendo: pagué 50 dólares por una habitación matrimonial que era mala, sin armario ni ropero. La ducha no tiene puerta y termina mojándose todo el baño; el WiFi es lentísimo y la TV no funciona. Dijeron que había que esperar a que viniera el vecino a repararla. El garaje pertenece a otra persona. Hay que meter el auto antes de que los demás usuarios de la zona ocupen el espacio; si no, se queda afuera. Además, se llena y bloquea la salida, y no hay nadie que pueda ayudarnos. Por ese precio, esperaba mucho más.

The hostel is okay, with decent rooms in a quiet spot. There is a garage, though breakfast isn't part of the price. A double or matrimonial room normally costs $35, but prices may rise during holidays, as they do around Baños. Right now, power cuts are an issue because the shower runs on electricity, so you can't bathe when the power is out.

We couldn't sleep on either of our two nights. Someone kept making noise in the hallway, and the hotel has very poor soundproofing. The owner also brought a motorcycle into the hall and repeatedly set off its very loud burglar alarm. The bedroom sheet was too small, and the curtains were moldy from the damp bathroom and lack of ventilation. The bathroom itself smelled foul, had mold, no ventilation, and very low water pressure. There were no towels, toilet paper, or soap, and the shower curtain was torn. I don't recommend staying here.
