Hilton Colon Guayaquil

The room service burger was the worst part of my stay. It was far too salty, and the meat wasn't cooked right, which was a real letdown. The room itself also had a musty odor and felt dated, especially the furnishings and decor. There were good parts, too. I enjoyed the pool and spa, and breakfast had plenty to choose from, looked appealing, and came with attentive service. The shared spaces were kept up, and the staff I met were friendly and professional. With some room updates and more reliable cooking, the hotel could make much better use of its potential.

The buffet was a highlight, with lots of local and international choices, and I'd give the food 9/10. The location is convenient for downtown, Mall del Sol, banks, and other places, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel looks nice but feels dated and needs renovation and more attention to details. There are cracked and worn areas in the rooms, no clock that I could find, and no hand towels. The shower enclosure should extend farther toward the wall, since water spills into the toilet area and leaves a puddle. The old olive-colored grass looks dirty, and the space by the elevators feels bare. The pool bar also looks old and disorganized. I didn't find much of a luxury feel beyond reception, and perhaps a little in the executive suites on the ninth floor. Even there, it was limited.

The hotel isn't within walking distance of much, and on Christmas Eve I couldn't get dinner in the restaurant as a guest traveling alone. They said someone had booked it, which felt inconsiderate. I was there for work and had a red-eye flight later, though, so perhaps I'll have a better impression if I return. The spa downstairs was good and reasonably priced. I had two one-hour massages with different therapists. They followed a consistent routine, though one used a little more pressure, and I enjoyed both. The gym was decent, and breakfast was very good for a hotel, with both a buffet and an omelette station.

That 3 AM pickup from the hotel staff was such a help, and I really appreciated it. The bed was so comfortable that we fell asleep right away, and the room and bathroom were clean. Breakfast in the morning was amazing, maybe almost too much food for breakfast 😂
