Hacienda Hato Verde

The place is quiet and kind of beautiful, but its location and prices didn’t work well for me. It doesn’t serve lunch, and although there seem to be lots of restaurants nearby, none were open, so I had to travel quite far to get lunch. The staff also seemed reluctant to help. For three days running, I asked them to light the chimney-style heater and was told “in 20 minutes,” but they didn’t come until we asked again. One day it was too cold for me to go out and ask once more, and they never lit it. The other costs added up too. Dinner was $25 per person, which felt far too high for the amount and quality of food, especially compared with much better hotels I’ve stayed in. Laundry was charged separately and seemed expensive: in most places in Ecuador, it’s around $1.50 per kg of clothes. I know some people can afford more, but that’s high compared with local prices. They also charged an extra fee for credit card payments, which many hotels don’t do. The owner might disagree, and I know there’s no point arguing. I just hope you read other comments and look around.

A quiet place near Cotopaxi and not too far from Latacunga. We enjoyed staying here. The rooms were great, with a good bed, though breakfast felt a bit minimal compared with other hotels in the same price range.

The vegetarian menu the chef made us was delicious, and we really liked the familiar atmosphere. It’s a cozy, peaceful place with kind owners, a fireplace in the room, and a high fence with guard dogs that made it feel very safe. I recommend it.

The place is elegant, with beautiful decor and a fireplace. We ordered a light dinner, just a main course and dessert, and still left very hungry.
