Waking up to views of El Corazón and the Ilinizas was the best part. The Casa had great rooms, was always very clean, and had plenty of hot water. Service and breakfast were excellent, and there’s a nice fireplace area to relax by in the evening. Machachi was pleasant and manageable, with plenty of restaurants and services nearby. Diego’s suggestions on the website helped a lot, and we never felt unsafe. Diego was always quick to respond when we had questions.

I spent three weeks here and climbed more than five peaks with guide Raul: Corazon, Both Ilinizas, Cayambe, and Chimborazo. The climbs were structured so I could learn, build my skills, acclimatize, and gradually take on more difficulty. Diego and his family run a great place that’s very well organized, with good equipment, and it’s an ideal base for mountaineering and hiking. The beds are cozy and the food is good. Highly recommend!

A cozy place tucked away as a wonderful starting point for a hiking trip to Cotopaxi. Owner Diego was so kind and gave us tips on trips, city spots, and traveling. The room was clean, tea and water were free, and the WiFi was good.

The highlight for me was climbing all the way up Cotopaxi with Marco. It was an amazing experience. Andes Climbing, which is based at Casa del Montañero, can arrange a guide and equipment for trips around the area. I stayed three nights. The place felt cosy and family-run, my room was good for the price, and breakfast was included and very good.

The family running the hostel went out of their way to help us. After we got soaked at the national park, they lit a fire so we could dry our clothes, opened the kitchen when they saw us using a camping stove, and even fixed my hiking pole. The rooms were clean, nice, and warm at night. They also arrange affordable trips in Cotopaxi National Park, with the option to hike independently or with a guide, and can lend you equipment. We had a great stay, and I absolutely recommend it.
