It looked like a fancy place when we went for dinner last night, but then a huge cockroach appeared while we were eating. I screamed when it flew toward me as the waiter tried to kill it. They didn't offer us a drink or any discount for the trouble, which was super disappointing as a foreigner. I have pictures of the cockroach and our meal.

The rooms at Vexour are roomy and comfortable, with a nice bathroom. There's also a gym, sauna, pool and a good restaurant. I enjoy staying here, and think it's a great fit for business trips as well as other kinds of travel.

On this latest visit it felt worse than before. It was crowded and unbearably hot, and I was sweating a lot. The drinks cost too much for an okay taste, and I didn't enjoy the music. Imagine mashups of Christina Aguilera with Colombia salsa. Horrible.

Oro Guayas mini bus service is only two blocks away, which makes this a handy stop when heading to or coming from Guayaquil. The hotel is very central in Machala, clean, refined and professional, with quiet rooms at night. The room rate included a great buffet with American and Ecuadorian food. I also felt secure, with a safe in the room and powerful air-conditioning that I could adjust myself. A good place for a night or two.
