Mantahost Hotel

We've stayed here twice with our family, and everyone enjoyed it. It's a great holiday spot right at the edge of the Pacific Ocean, with a clean, friendly atmosphere and nice food. There are good places to sit by the pool and elsewhere with sea views, plus activities like snooker and table tennis and a play area for kids.

The restaurant food is amazing, and breakfast has a great spread: local dishes, eggs made to order, fresh natural juices, fruit, salads, pastries, and more. A beautiful location, comfortable rooms, and outstanding service too.

The lobby is very nice, and I had a comfortable stay, though the rooms weren't as elegant as the entrance. Breakfast was really good, and the coffee was great. The views of the beach are lovely, and the infinity pool is beautiful, but it isn't heated. There's a fridge stocked with drinks, and unless you leave a card on file for charges, you can't use a refrigerator. No microwaves in the rooms either. It's near clubs and local hangouts, but the noise didn't bother me. Updating this after staying at another local hotel on my way back, at the same rates: Mantahost was definitely the better stay. The rooms were cleaner, the hotel felt more elegant overall, and there was more to do, including a pool table and recreation area in the lobby. REAL ocean views, and friendly staff.

The area doesn't really have a beach, just rocks at low tide, though there's a sandy patch by the pool where kids can play and adults can sunbathe. You can walk from there to the 'beach', and kids may enjoy the rocks, where small pools form at low tide. The former Howard Johnson has rebranded while keeping very good quality across the staff, restaurant, rooms, and pool. Rooms are comfortable and nicely styled, similar to a Four Points or Courtyard. They aren't at the level of a US 5-star hotel, but still feel upscale for a beach hotel. The lobby is spacious, well decorated, and in great shape, with bell boys ready to help. From the balcony at this level, you get a beautiful view of the ocean and infinity pool. The restaurant is on the same level and had a very good menu; breakfast buffet was outstanding, with lots of choices. There's a good parking area with private security.
