The place looks gorgeous, but dog owners should steer clear. They turned away my medical alert dog even though I had all his paperwork. That seems illegal. Honestly, bringing a dog onto a plane would probably cause fewer problems.

We came to Otavalo for a wedding and had a wonderful stay at Cabañas. The front desk even sorted out a taxi for our trip to Plaza de Ponchos and back. Our room was beautiful and really comfortable, and the breakfast was incredible. The views were lovely too. My husband and I would happily come back, and I’d recommend it.

The people were so lovely, and Paulinita is especially adorable, ask for her! I loved the warm, cozy huts and the beautiful landscape around the lake.

The restaurant costs too much. Also, if you have any respiratory problems, ask them not to light the fireplace, since they use diesel to get it started. Unfortunately, the water was off for a couple of hours while we were there.

The marina has some really good activities, though they’re a bit pricey, and it gets packed on weekends and public holidays. The place itself isn’t bad, but the rooms are near the marina and can get noisy. The food was just OK. The empanadas de viento were really good, while the rest felt expensive and wasn’t very tasty.
