Mashys Hostal

For $12, I had a private room with a queen bed and bathroom at Mashy's, and I was impressed with what I got. The room and bathroom were clean and excellent, and the front desk staff were kind and ready to help with anything I asked. It was an ideal location for my early morning departure, practically beside the bus station. There’s also a game room, a stocked kitchen, and a roof deck, though I didn’t see the deck. My room had a small balcony, and everything seemed well kept. I accidentally left my laptop power cables behind, and they kept them safe until they could be collected a few days later. The one drawback was that hot water came and went early in the morning. Still, it was a great stay for the price, and I’d recommend considering it.

We walked in and got a decent double room for a fair price. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the kitchen was a big plus. There’s also a billiard table, nice for hanging out. They provide a towel and soap, too. The reason I’m taking off a star is that a large group was very loud late at night and again early the next morning. Aside from that, it was a good experience.

The terrace on the fourth floor is a nice spot to unwind, with views over Otavalo and the surrounding countryside. Mashy's is clean and well run, and every room has its own bathroom. The wifi is very good as well. It’s less than a block from the bus terminal, so there’s no need to haul your bags far or get a taxi.

I’ve kept coming back for years because the place is comfortable, very clean, and quiet at night. The owners are wonderful, and the hot shower is the best.
