Angermeyer Waterfront Inn

The restaurant was a highlight. Breakfast had a good selection, and I usually chose yogurt with bananas, granola, chia, and similar healthy toppings. We ate dinner there twice and liked the distinctive menu. Night herons joined us in the evening, with mockingbirds and Darwin’s finches around in the morning. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the laundry service was fast and inexpensive. I sent clothes one night and got them back the next day. My room was spacious and beautiful, with a gorgeous view, but it was on the top floor, up four flights of stairs. I had sciatic pain, so the climb hurt. There’s no hotel phone in the room, either, so anything I needed meant going downstairs and climbing back up. Using my cellphone would have meant a CDN $18 roaming charge. I didn’t know before the trip that elevators are hard to find in the Galapagos and that only one hotel has one. If I’d known my room would be upstairs with no elevator, I’d have asked Holland America to try for a ground-floor room. Still, I think an in-room phone would be useful for guest services and for setting an alarm or wake-up call. On the second day my iPhone alarm failed, and I nearly missed my tour. It’s an expensive hotel, so I don’t understand why there’s no room phone. Every day they provided two tall bottles of drinking water, which they ask you to use even for brushing your teeth. They’ll refill them downstairs if needed. The safe was confusing when I arrived. Everyone in our outdoor group had trouble with it, and I needed guest services to show me how it worked. Someone else said they’d needed help with the safe four times! 😁 I stayed three nights at the Angermeyer waterfront inn at the end of November 2025, as part of a four-day Galápagos overland trip with Holland America. The resort is accessible by a $1 water taxi and sits on Academy Bay. Schools of cute cownose rays and baby sharks often patrol the bay. You don’t need to go far to see Sally Lightfoot crabs or marine iguanas, they’re on the docks and rocks along the shore. Those are the reasons I rated it four stars instead of five.

We’d definitely stay again. They helped us book several tours in advance at better prices than the advertised ones. Service, breakfast, housekeeping, and turndown were all great. The location was convenient despite needing a water taxi.

The staff were top notch and treated us like VIPs. The rooms were excellent and the views incredible. It’s one of the most unique places we’ve stayed, and we’ll be back.

The rooms and shared areas were kept clean and organized, and the location was great, with quick access to the path to las Grietas and Playa del Aleman. The bay views and wildlife were lovely. Every night we had fun watching schools of fish and several black tip sharks by the hotel pier. Our three-night stay had some disappointing aspects. The hotel’s infrastructure has seen much better days. The rooms felt dated, and the bathrooms, while clean, were very worn. For Galapagos, I’d rate the condition at three stars at best. Reception were helpful and friendly, and tried to go above and beyond. After a gecko incident in our room, they did their best to deal with it and offered us an upgrade to make up for the inconvenience.
