Casa Eden

Gloria got up very early the next morning to make us a wonderful breakfast. We were there for just one night and received excellent service. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and it's on a quiet street, not far from either the main street or the Darwin Research Station.

The outside of Casa Eden Hostel is charming, and the breakfasts were delicious. The rooms have unusual layouts, though, and many of the windows don't have proper coverings. With all the surrounding greenery and mosquitoes, that can make the stay frustrating.

The hostel had been spotless and quiet, and the breakfast was delicious, until this morning. At 5:30am I woke to men next door hammering and banging on walls and yelling inside and outside, still celebrating from the night before. I asked Gloria about it at breakfast, and she said “No se”. I got cold corn cake from the refrigerator, which we'd had three days ago. I guess I was the problem. It had been a great experience until it wasn't. It's a creative art house that's fun to come home to, but not to wake up to. Roll the dice. I contacted Gloria about the noise, and she said there was no construction. There's a live wire touching the outside metal banister. I can't tell where it's coming from, but it could seriously harm someone with a pacemaker. The front door only has a bedroom-style lock, with no deadbolt or safe, and all businesses want cash. Plug in the buzzing device that keeps bugs down.

The place is very peaceful, with beautiful views, good breakfast, and exceptional air conditioning. The staff are friendly and the location is nice, within easy walking distance of the dock, though taxis pass often if you'd rather not walk. The Wi-Fi wasn't very good, and the rooms could use hooks for hanging clothes.
