Hotel Carliza

Our room looked onto the building's dining area, and the place could get noisy when it's busy. It was quiet during our stay, though I'd bring earplugs. The location puts you close to everything, and we got a very good Airbnb price. Check-in was simple, and we could pick between two rooms. They changed the bed every day even when we put the do-not-disturb sign out. Drinking water in the lobby and Wi-Fi in the room were free. The shower had hot water, though the pressure was low. We didn't use the air conditioning or fan.

We paid $40 for a private room with a private bathroom for two, and the rooms were clean. The location was great. The kitchen wasn't good, there was nowhere to relax even though the building has a roof, and the staff weren't especially helpful or outgoing. It's an adequate stay, though Hotel Crossman has better options at the same price.

The beds were good, and the cleaning staff were friendly and supportive. The reception staff, on the other hand, were very unfriendly. We stayed just one night before our flight, but for a longer visit I might have changed hotels. The place is basic and clean, apart from some food and bones on the balcony, and it could use maintenance. There was no hot water, no towels, and no AC remote, even though we hadn't booked a budget room. Wi-Fi only worked on the reception floor, which was okay. I think you can find better for the price in Porto Ayora.

The price and location were the main positives, and the staff were consistently nice and helpful. They changed towels when we asked, cleaned the rooms daily, and the internet, while not fast, was better than at other places we stayed in Galapagos. There seems to be potential here, but management felt disorganized: everything was recorded on paper, and sometimes information didn't seem to reach the other workers. Cleaners knocked a few times in the morning and then came straight into the room, which we didn't like. During our six nights, we only had a hot shower on the last day. Some rooms are nice, but ours had very little airflow, with windows onto a corridor and a tiny bathroom window. The small kitchen for cooking was badly equipped, with no knives and only a couple of forks, and it stayed very dirty throughout our six-night stay. There was also a small child living at the hotel who would shout “mummy” nonstop, sometimes throw things, and start this up every day around 7-8 o'clock.
