I've been back three times over the past seven years and enjoyed every stay. You're right across the street from the beach, and the center of town is an easy walk away, though it's quieter here. There are rooms at different prices, with or without AC, and with either shared or private bathrooms. Guests can use the kitchen and keep food in the fridge. The internet is good enough for video calls. The common areas have rustic tables and hammocks, and they're pretty nice. The owners are very hospitable, and it's a good place to meet people and learn some Spanish.

The balcony with its two hammocks was nice, and the distance to the town center turned out to be just right, even though the map made it look much farther. The dogs bark at people passing and can be a bit in the way, but they aren't dangerous. Our room was at the back, with a window over the junk yard and laundry area. The toilet light didn't work, nor did the shower heater. Touching any metal part of the shower gave a small electric shock. We weren't told at check-in, but there is free drinking water in a kitchen canister, at least sometimes. A better room could make this a four out of five for the price.

The owners were so kind and helpful, and breakfast was really nice. My friend and I stayed three nights in a proper tree house, with mosquito nets around the beds. We absolutely loved it. I'll definitely stay here again when I return to Puerto Lopez.

The shared kitchen was a real plus. We used it to cook fish we'd bought at the market, and the owners were friendly. The main issue was cleanliness. Our bedroom was fine, but the shared bathroom was dirty. I was told to let them know when a room needed cleaning. I would have expected the common areas to be cleaned daily. Monte Libano hostel sits on the left side of the main city center, facing the sea. This part of town has more nature and less noise, and from our room we could hear the waves and see the water. The fish market and small comedores are five minutes away, making it easy to get a local, tasty breakfast, buy fish from the fishermen, or pick up fresh tortillas.
