The room and location were good, but the TV was tiny, just 14 inches, and mounted so high on the wall it was nearly useless. My bigger issue was the owner’s attitude. I accidentally hit the bathroom shelf with my hand while brushing my teeth. It was glass and attached with a loose, corroded screw. The screw came out of the wall, the shelf fell and broke, and the owner insisted we pay $20 for the damage. If it had been fixed properly, it wouldn’t have budged.

Our reservation through bookings.com was confirmed, but when we arrived there was no room available. This was the first time that’s happened to me. They said sorry and recommended another hotel.

We had a very comfortable stay in the Iguana room. It was quiet, spacious, cozy and pleasant, with an excellent panoramic view and a big bed. The room had a coffee machine and frigobar. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

We had landed on Isabela with no cash anywhere on the island, and no accommodation or tours booked. We’d stopped at Sun Island Hostel to find WiFi and coffee, and Janet, the owner, could see we were stressed and offered to help. We stayed at her hotel for two nights and booked a tour through her. We paid by card with only a 4% charge, which is unheard of here, since everywhere else charges 10-22%. The room was stunning, with views over the town and ocean, and we could even see flamingos in the local lake while showering. Janet communicated wonderfully. Our Spanish is very bad, but she spoke slowly and clearly, with simple phrases and lots of hand gestures, so we understood. We can’t thank Sun Island enough ❤️.

The rooms were on the small side, but clean and tidy. The staff were phenomenal, so friendly and helpful, and made check-in seamless.
