Casa Francisco Hotel

At 9,300 feet and on a hill, the altitude is something to take slowly. I could feel it, though all my walking at home meant I had no real trouble. My wife, who has a desk job, got altitude sickness; tea made with some local plant leaves helped her. Nights get cool, but there’s no climate control, heater, or air conditioner, and none seemed necessary. Still, you may want a sweatshirt if you’re in the hotel at night. The bed was comfortable, with a blanket, comforter, and an extra blanket. The hotel is in an old historic building. Our room had a table, chair, clothes storage, toilet, and shower with hot water. Staff were extremely nice, accommodating, and helpful. Breakfast varied by day and included coffee, juice, two eggs, and toast. If you’re walking around, ask the front desk about safety. You should probably be back at the hotel by dark. If you don’t speak Spanish, my advice is to use ChatGPT to translate everything you say into Ecuadorian Spanish using the Usted form.

We found it easy to get around from this central hotel, and it was good value for the price. The manager kindly accommodated our flight arriving at midnight. Breakfast was simple and filling, and the staff were very kind.

The downtown views are the best.

Great location and lots of charm, with plenty of potential, but the place felt run down in the end.
