Downtown Guayunga Hostel

There are lovely views from the hotel, and its spacious layout has a few tucked-away spots where you can take a break from the city. The centre is close enough to reach on foot, while the rooms and shared spaces are kept clean. The family and staff are friendly, fair, and very attentive. Since they’re locals with plenty of experience in tourism, they have useful information and take the time to explain things patiently. I’d come back again and again.

When we got back, we decided to stay the night. The hostel can arrange taxis, which is handy. On our first arrival, we were waiting for the bus to the Amazon, and a lovely Brazilian staff member showed us upstairs to the lounge, offered blankets and luggage storage, and even let us use a shower, though it was cold. The bar has a stunning view, but the beds were very uncomfortable. The mattress springs poked through, the pillows were rock hard, and the walls were paper-thin. We had a very bad night’s sleep.

I haven’t stayed overnight at this hostal, so this is just about the bar and the service I experienced. The front desk young woman greeted me warmly, got some information from me, and showed me to the guest area. She mentioned the top rooof bar, so I went up. The restaurant has a stunning city view, the service was great, and the atmosphere felt welcoming. I came back to the bar after another trip and got the same friendly service again. The rooftop is incredible, and there are nice social areas with a good atmosphere. The dorms are well equipped, with personal lights and outlets, and it’s good value overall. Breakfast felt too small. You can hear noise from upstairs in the dorm, though it stops at 23pm.
