Heritage Inn

A quiet street in the city made for a convenient location, and the beds were comfortable. I felt very safe with locked gates and electric wire above them. Staff buzz you in and out. The facilities were clean and the water piping hot. Such a delightful stay.

The breakfast is excellent. Ask ahead if you’d like complimentary humitas with it.

The last-minute change to our agreed transport left our holiday on a stressful note. A week before check-in, we had arranged a free ride, a nice extra from Travellers-Inn. We checked again at check-in, two days before departure, and were told it was no problem. We also set a pickup time at the hostel. Then, half an hour before we were due to leave, suddenly there was a problem. The extra cost itself wasn’t the issue. I had to run to a bank to withdraw money at the last minute, after trying to use up our cash before the end of the trip and being short by two dollars. If they’d told us two days earlier, we could have made other arrangements. A real pity. The hostel is generally nice and is owned by the people behind Travellers-Inn, which is how we found it. It’s clean and tidy, and the building seemed newly built or renovated when we visited in 12/2015, with a nice, untouched feel. The location is close to Plaza Foch and its bars and discos, though the hostel itself is in a quiet, out-of-the-way area. Friendly staff, except for the owner, who came across as professionally cold. When she served us, the older woman didn’t seem happy when I asked for a second coffee, unlike anywhere else during our three weeks in Ecuador. There’s satellite TV with plenty of Spanish and English programs, including English subtitles. If you’re traveling through and just want a clean room, TV, and breakfast outside the hostel, it’s a reasonable choice. Backpackers can find better value. Breakfast was tiny, the smallest of three Quito hostels we tried. To match the Quito average, it needed yogurt and a little sausage, cheese, or Nutella. The other two places were cheaper too. WiFi didn’t work properly in our room, so we had to go outside it. They knew about the problem but didn’t mention it at check-in, though I’m sure they’ll fix it sooner or later. No staff spoke English during our stay, but luckily my girlfriend speaks some Spanish.

The Heritage Inn is a quiet, really nice place to stay in Quito. I was there for work, and they provided us with a workspace and made getting around easier. The owner is helpful and will support you with whatever you need. The rooms are quite spacious, the internet is fast, and breakfast is good.
