We found a lively nightlife area by accident on our first evening, and it was an easy walk away, with dancing and live shows to choose from. The hotel itself is in a generally quiet area, and a taxi or Uber ride to the historic old town takes about 15 minutes and costs around $4. From our room on the 11th floor we could see Cotopaxi. The 12th floor terrace was usually empty, so we took breakfast up there for the volcano view. The lounge has comfy seats, breakfast includes local dishes, and the staff are super friendly. It felt safe and enjoyable, and worked well as a base for exploring Quito.

We had a spacious, clean room, and breakfast was great. The location worked perfectly, with lots of good restaurants and craft beer spots within a five-minute walk. Another nearby room was a little noisy, though it was New Year’s weekend and the noise wasn’t too bad. I’d stay again.

I was flying out the next morning and had meant to book the airport Holiday Inn Quito. I chose the airport hotel online, but the reservation that came through was for the city location. I called right away to try to sort it out, asking if they could move the payment to the airport hotel or let me cancel for a small fee. They refused both requests. The customer service was poor and the hotel seemed greedy for money. It felt like a scam. I wouldn’t stay here.

The food is the drawback for vegetarians. The scrambled eggs at the hot breakfast came with ham, and I was told I could have requested plain eggs to be made separately. That response showed little awareness of international eating habits, and I’d expect an international chain to be more supportive of guests. Otherwise, the rooms are spacious and clean, and it felt safe for me as a woman traveling alone. The staff, especially the porters, were kind and helpful, and treated guests like people.
