There was plenty of hot water, but the place was old, run-down, and not very clean. It seemed to be family-run, and we felt like we were intruding.

I first contacted the hostel on Instagram to book, and they were helpful there, but sent me over to WhatsApp to make the reservation. That’s where things went wrong. I wanted to book a month ahead for the May holiday, but was told I had to wait until two days before arriving in Quito. They then asked for my details, and later deleted all their messages from the chat, leaving only mine. The whole thing showed a serious lack of professionalism, customer service, and reliability.

I was applying for a Canadian visa, so being close to everything made this hostel’s location ideal for me. It’s easy to reach by bus, and taxis are very affordable. I arrived before my scheduled check-in, and they kindly got me into a room very quickly.
