The whole meal was an experience, with genuine kindness that I haven't encountered before. Max and family were attentive to every detail and created one of the best meals we've ever had. I tried things that were new to me, and the food was only part of what made it so good. Highly recommended.
The owners are lovely, and the food and service were among the best I've ever had. And the bread, wow, absolutely amazing. It's a beautiful, very quiet sanctuary near Quito.
We sat outdoors on a balcony above the large gardens, with Illalo and a beautiful sky in the distance. It made for a special afternoon at La Casa del Tilo, and I'd highly recommend the experience to anyone wanting a memorable meal. For the second course, my partner and I shared succulent free-range lamb. It had a distinctive flavor, and we'd been told it was fed avocado and oranges on the farm where it came from. Max and Cecil, the restaurant's proprietors, prepare every part of their artful dishes themselves. Max came to our table, as is traditional in Europe, to explain details such as where ingredients are grown or sourced and how they're prepared. We enjoyed savoring the delicacies they made.
The owners and staff are wonderful, and they make you feel like family. I never expected to find the best French cuisine I've ever eaten in Tumbaco, Ecuador, but this was it.
