Villa De Sant Hotel Boutique

The real standout was the service. The staff were so lovely, and they’ve made my first impression of Ecuador a great one. I really enjoyed staying here. The building has lovely furnishings and some interesting history, and I personally liked its rustic feel.

A small, clean hotel with good service, close to the craft market and old town. It’s a heritage house, not a chain hotel.

The 5 star personal service is what really sets this hotel apart. Freddy was in touch on WhatsApp before we arrived to make check-in smooth, and Diego went out of his way for us, even picking up dinner from a local restaurant on our first night. The add-on prices for wine and food service were reasonable, and the service was beyond 5 star. I like hotels with character and charm, not big chains, and Villa de Sant has both. The breakfasts changed daily and always included tropical fruit juice and eggs cooked to order. There were little nooks where you could hang out or work on your computer. The property feels like an oasis in the busy city and is very well situated. Casa de la Culture is a short walk away, as is the huge Mercado with local traditional merchant fare. Restaurants are walkable too, and for LGBTQ guests, several clubs and bars are a short Uber ride away. I stayed in 3 different hotels during my time in Quito, and I’ll make a point of coming back to Villa de Sant.

The location was the main thing this place had going for it, and the outside grounds were nice. The interior was nicely done too, but overall, I wouldn’t stay here again. The room floors squeaked loudly every time we walked. The owner offered us some banana cake to try, then charged us $20 for it at checkout. How tacky. The place was empty, and I didn’t meet another guest, which should have been a hint. They charged $60.00 for the airport transfer both ways, the most I’ve paid in Ecuador. Overall, a definite pass.
