The owner is so friendly, speaks fluent English, and makes delicious breakfast and coffee. The rooms are bright and clean, with very comfortable beds. Compared with other hotels we stayed in around Ecuador, the standard here is really high. I’d absolutely recommend it, it’s worth a stay.

We checked in on Feb. 6, 2023 and left Feb. 9. From the moment we entered Casa 1881, we felt welcome. The historic property has authentic rooms that were very clean, modern bathrooms, and cozy bedding on comfortable beds. Breakfasts were delicious and filling. Santiago, his wife, and their family were incredibly friendly and helpful. Santiago speaks fluent English and could help guests arrange all kinds of things, from tenting, hiking, and camping to fine dining, sightseeing, and medical attention. We can’t remember ever feeling even a little sad to leave another property on our travels. We highly recommend this wonderful place.

Breakfast was outstanding, and Santiago, the owner, was welcoming, friendly, and so helpful. He helped us plan tours and restaurant visits, and gave us a map so we could make our own walking tour around Riobamba. We spent six weeks traveling through Ecuador, and this was the best hotel of the trip. It really is a boutique hotel, with care given to the details. It’s a lovely, peaceful base for Chimborazo, Shanghai national park, and other outdoor exploring, or just for taking it easy in Riobamba.

The location made it easy to walk to shops, markets, plazas, and restaurants. The man working there was kind, attentive, and very helpful, and gave us a great map for a walking tour of the city. Breakfast was included, delicious, and really filling. Our charming room was clean and bright, with high ceilings and a spacious feel. The mattresses were firm but comfortable, and there was Netflix on the TV, good Wi-Fi, and a hot shower. Such good value, highly recommend it if you’re in Riobamba.
