Rio Hotel

We chose this hotel for a night before heading to Chimborazo. The room was basic but clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The mattress definitely needs improvement: it was uncomfortable and made a lot of noise. They have secure parking, which makes it a good option if you’re traveling by car.

The room was clean and otherwise okay, which made the awful sleep especially disappointing. The bed was small and creaked so much that my partner and I woke whenever either of us moved or rolled over. The top sheet was even narrower than the bed, so sharing it wasn’t comfortable at all. The Wi-Fi wasn’t great either.

For the price, it’s decent value, with a nice lobby and a reasonable central location. The rooms are basic. Water was a hassle: staff had to go around fixing our pipes and turning it on, and later we had to call to get hot water arranged. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to take a hot shower whenever you like without fuss. Breakfast is basic too, just instant coffee, bread, and cheese.

We arrived late on Saturday evening, so the best rooms weren’t available. The two rooms we got were still pretty nice and comfortable. The staff were kind, and they didn’t charge for my 10-year-old, even though other hotels had tried to charge me for him. The place is in a perfect location, and the lunch room has a lovely view of Chimborazo.
