The longer trip from Coca is worth it for the wildlife. It takes 4 to 5 hours by boat, but being so far from civilization means you see a lot more. We also tried a more upscale lodge just 1h from Coca and barely saw any wildlife that interested us, so I’d strongly recommend making the longer journey. The guide can make or break a lodge stay, and it sounds like experiences vary. We had Livio, who was phenomenal, 6 stars for him. The lodge itself gets 4.

Elias was the highlight for us. He knows his stuff, was helpful, and kept searching for animals throughout the well organized tours without giving up. The staff were 5 stars too. The lodge is in a good spot, though it could use some maintenance. Great value for 4/5 days.
