Hotel Alpachaca

Clean, private, and quiet, with a very affordable rate for budget travelers. Food options can be tricky if you have different dietary needs, but it’s very close to the airport and the shuttle runs around the clock at a good price.

A tasty breakfast is available in the third-floor cafeteria, and the decor is really nice. The room was cozy, very clean, and inexpensive, with fantastic customer service. Being so close to the airport also made it convenient to arrive in Ecuador late at night.

We were hungry and tired after a six-hour flight delay put us into Quito late at night, so we grabbed dinner at the wings and pizza restaurant out front. The food was great for the price, and the staff were friendly. We booked this room at the last minute with very low expectations, but it turned out great: courteous staff, a hot shower, big fluffy pillows, warm blankets, and peace and quiet. Breakfast was $4 for fruit, humita, juice, coffee, and scrambled eggs. There’s a rooftop terrace to eat on, plus free parking and drinking water. A diamond in the rough, as long as you remember it’s a budget hotel and appreciate what it provides.

The airport location didn’t help when the taxi they’d said they would order never showed up. When the pickup time came, they told me there would be no taxi. Breakfast was painfully slow too, taking 20 minutes to make a tiny serving of eggs. A really bad experience.
