El Descanso del Toro Hostería - Spa

We celebrated a birthday here. It’s a grand place with seating for 100 or more, so finding a spot wasn’t a problem. The area where we sat was clean, and we were the only people there, but service still moved in a strange order. The food took a while, then the cutlery arrived with the meals. We had to ask for salt, pepper, mayonnaise, ketchup, and napkins, and the drinks came halfway through the meal. The food itself was good, and I liked that there was no TV or music, so we could hear each other talk. The menu is very limited, which I think can mean better, simpler food. It’s wheelchair friendly, though the bathrooms aren’t as accessible. Inside, the tables and chairs are rustic and heavy. There’s plenty of parking, and customers can use the facilities, including the pool and games room.

The wedding reception food was fantastic, and the setting is absolutely beautiful. But the service let us down. They weren’t helpful with several requests from the wedding party, and some promises in the contract weren’t met, which put a lot of stress on the families.

Our group was disappointed with the food. A few of us had stomach aches afterward. The service was great and very professional, though, and I’m not saying everything was bad, just that it wasn’t as good as advertised.

Had a great day, and the staff were very friendly. The rate felt fairly expensive for Vilca, even though I booked the nicest room. I wish there were a few more well-maintained amenities and a smart TV in the luxurious room. Aside from that, it was a great stay.
