Hyatt Place Tallinn

We spent three nights here, and the location worked perfectly, within walking distance of both the ferry terminal and the old town. The room was nice and very clean, and we especially appreciated the large shower. Breakfast could be crowded in the morning, with people sometimes waiting quite a while for a place. I can only recommend the hotel.

The food was delicious, and breakfast, while simple, was enough. The meatballs were especially tasty. Our suite was great and came with its own parking, and the hotel feels almost new, modern, and clean. It’s very good value for money. The service could have included a few more smiles, though I’m Czech and understand that people may not smile much for cultural reasons, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. If there were room service, I could see it fitting among the better Hyatt brands. It’s nicer and cleaner than many Regencies and even some Grand Hyatts around the world. Given the choice between this and Grand Hyatt Bangkok, I’d pick this one without hesitation. After a day in Tallinn, I got the impression that rudeness is common here, from customers and service workers alike. I’m used to people not faking smiles, but this felt like another level. As part of an international chain, the hotel should train staff in hospitality. Western tourists may read the manner as rude and unfriendly, and the hotel could get worse reviews over that perception.

The cocktail bar upstairs is a nice spot, and breakfast has a good range of quality options. The staff are friendly, and the hotel is clean and modern. Its surroundings aren’t especially inspiring, but it’s central, with easy access to Old Town, the Center, and Telliskivi.

The hotel has a gym, though there’s no sauna or spa, and I didn’t get around to checking out the rooftop restaurant. It was worth the Viking Line deal I got, with a neat, modern feel and spacious, comfortable rooms. The ship terminal is close, and Old Town is about a ten-minute walk away. Breakfast could use more choice, especially plant-based options. The warm dishes were basic, with potato wedges, beans, and porridge. A staff member was nice enough to make me an oat cappuccino once. The à la carte restaurant had only a couple of vegetarian lunch or dinner options. Otherwise, it’s a great hotel with good service.
