The host replied quickly, though I never met them. Instructions with the door code and key box combination arrived the day before. Check-in was at 3pm, and the WiFi network was “Apartments2,” but the password written on the door was illegible. A beeping smoke alarm needed a new battery, and that was sorted within 24 hours. APT #1 is the only apartment with balconies, so book early if you want them. From both balconies there’s a view of Town Square. The apartment has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a full kitchen with dishwasher, large fridge and microwave, and a washing machine. It was clean and had everything I needed. I was traveling alone and loved it. Despite facing the square, it was quiet at night, and the windows and doors were well insulated. Tallinn goes to sleep early, with no loud bars nearby. I visited in late May and didn’t need air conditioning. Tallinn nights stay cool even after warm days. I’m from Miami, where everything has a/c, but I’m not sure whether this apartment even has it. For luggage, I used Hotel Veru, the former KGB bugged hotel with a KGB Museum tour. It was a 10-minute walk to Kinga 1, and they charged 5€ per piece. Ask the receptionist nicely. Taxis can’t reach the apartment door on Town Square, so ask a taxi or Bolt! to stop at Tourist Information Office (Niguliste 2), which is closest and known to drivers. You can pop in for a map or questions before walking two short blocks to the apartment. The women there speak impeccable English and were kind, patient, and helpful. They told me about cultural events, and I bought tickets to two performances at the Estonia Opera & Concert Hall. They were cheap compared with U.S. prices, and I recommend it if you enjoy seeing beautiful city venues while watching music or dance. The “Tallinn in a Nutshell Free Walking Tour” also starts there every day at 11 am and 2 pm. Katia was an exceptional guide if you can get her. Her voice carries, her pace suits all ages, and her storytelling made the 2+ hour walk entertaining and informative. I’d stay nowhere else if I return to Tallinn. With 3pm check-in and 11am check-out, I think these apartments make more sense for stays of 3+ days. For a shorter visit, a hotel may be more practical if you need early check-in, late checkout, or luggage storage.

The location was the best part, and otherwise the stay was quite good. But cleanliness really matters to me, and this fell short: there was a dirty handkerchief between the pillows on the main bed and a dirty fork in the cutlery drawer. That’s disappointing when there’s a dishwasher and the cleaning fee for the economy apartment is 40 euros. The shower was awkward too, with no curtain and low water pressure.

DO NOT BOOK OLDHOUSE APARTMENTS if you want a pleasant trip. I’ve traveled for over 15 years, and this was the worst customer service I’ve had. There were many damages in the apartments, but they refused to fix anything and told you to adapt. Don’t trust their marketing materials. The staff were highly unprofessional, wouldn’t accept negative feedback, and called me rude. This is my honest feedback from a painful personal experience.

The apartment itself was beautiful, and we got a free glass of wine at check-in. We stayed on Lai, 26 or 30. Just note that the address is the main office, not the apartment. Staff let us store our bags both when we arrived and when we left.

The Kinga apartment was beginning to look worn. There were only three dining chairs for four adults, but after I told reception, another one arrived the next day. A smoke detector kept beeping for a new battery. I reported it, and someone came and removed the battery, so the noise stopped.
