Maria Apartments

A really cozy apartment.

The apartment was clean, spacious, and well equipped, and the bathroom was warm and had everything we needed. Getting directly into the building from the parking lot was handy. The guesthouse is on a one-way street, and its location is a plus, though there may not be enough spaces for everyone. If you have to park on the street, some of it is paid parking. Our first impression was very good, but after we came back later we noticed an unpleasant sewage smell in the room. It went away after we ran the shower water. We could also hear voices from the next room, and there wasn't much we could do about that. Someone with heavy footsteps walked around until midnight, then started again at 6 a.m. The vibrations from the footsteps came through to us, so we swapped ends of the bed and slept with our heads where our feet usually go. Street traffic was clearly audible too. If you're a light sleeper, bring patience and earplugs in case the people next door are active and socializing. The bathroom light was oddly placed behind and too high, making the mirror dim. The kitchen windows were the only ones with a straight view outside, so they hadn't been cleaned. Wipe marks made things look dirtier overall. One pillow had seen better days and could be replaced, or another pillow could be added. It's a hostel, after all. The second night was peaceful, and then we were happy with our choice.

It was peaceful, and the terrace was large, though it stayed in the shade. There was some confusion about whether air conditioning was available, even though it was listed among the house amenities. It seems to be offered now for an extra fee.
