We come back here every summer. It’s a regular stop on our calendar, and I can see why: it’s a real break from the connected, busy world, with nature all around and the sea just a short walk away. There are endless fields and, with only our little campfire for light, I saw more stars than I have in decades. Lemps and Marie are lovely hosts and make sure you have what you need, whether you’re after a quiet rest or an outdoor adventure. There’s canoeing, a wood sauna, pool, volleyball, swings for the kids, BBQ, and plenty more.

Getting here is easy on paved roads, and the place is super cozy, clean, and relaxed. The host is friendly, the kitchen is really well equipped, and towels and firewood are provided. You can also use the campfire and BBQ for free.

My four-year-old son got scared and now doesn’t dare leave the room without me, not even when I go to the toilet. The owner noticed five fingerprints he’d left on the main room mirror, which I hadn’t seen, then called me over and made both of us stand in front of it while she pointed at us with her index finger and shamed us. I’m 40, and I’ve never been treated so badly. The Estonian owner was so angry, and I’m half Estonian myself. I don’t understand. Terribly rude staff!

If you want to stay close to the land, it’s worth giving this place a try. Just know that a barn house rental only comes with a dry toilet. When you stay in the house, there’s a water toilet available.
