The beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was okay, though nothing special. The dining area felt old and worn, with dirty, ugly purple chairs that made it seem cheap. The hotel isn’t very cheap, so a renovation would help. Our room barely aired out because the windows only opened about 2 cm. There is a sauna, but it’s open for only a few hours on weekends, and reception didn’t tell us until we asked. Viljandi itself is beautiful. It has 17 sculpture cats, and we found 14.

Breakfast was nice, and the room was decent, but this felt more like a three-star stay than a four-star one. We paid about €180 per night, and the hotel felt old and worn, as if it were relying on its former glory. The spa and sauna are advertised prominently, but we only learned on arrival that the sauna opens on weekends from 8 AM to 10 AM. There was also a sign for massage services, though no massage was actually available. We went out for a few hours and left the “Please clean the room” sign, but the room hadn’t been cleaned when we got back. The experience didn’t match the advertising or the price. I hope the hotel is more transparent and keeps the facilities in better shape to meet the expectations it sets.

I can’t comment on the hotel itself because I haven’t stayed overnight. I’ve had lunch at its restaurant several times. The buffet is nice, but I’ve been disappointed each time by the main course. It’s often tasteless and barely warm, usually lukewarm. The soup is lukewarm most of the time too, though it’s usually the best part, along with the homemade bread. They should pay more attention to the quality of the lunch food.

The staff were really friendly, and the room was clean. Breakfast was more than great, and the quality was good for a reasonable price. The place is right in the city centre, not far from the lake or museum. I’d definitely recommend it. If you’ve never been to Viljandi, go. The people are friendly and pleasant, and there are lots of places to explore.
