Amwaj Hotel

The hotel felt almost empty, and we only came across guests from one other room. That made for a calm, relaxed stay. Although Amwaj Hotel is quite far from the city, at night you can see more stars. The gated complex was also handy for exercise. I could run safely inside the grounds, with each lap close to one kilometer. We had a spacious double room with two bedrooms and three beds, so there was plenty of room. The pressure was good, but the hot water got extremely hot, almost boiling, so be careful. The hotel was clean, and the staff were kind and attentive. Only a few spoke English, so communicating sometimes took patience, but they made an effort and were warm. Some fixtures and furnishings were old, and a few things felt loose, though they all worked and didn't affect our comfort. Breakfast came as a simple set for two. It had two single egg omelettes, six pitas, a quarter tomato, cucumber slices, a few small olives, two slices of cheese, butter, honey, a triangle cheese, and a plate with a thin spread of something like cream cheese. We each got a personal bottle of water. The amount and quality were acceptable, but there was no coffee or tea. A small pot of hot water would have been welcome so guests could make their own drinks at the table. Don't drink the tap water. The chlorine is noticeable in many places, but here the smell is immediately strong. Bring bottled water, take care with the very hot water, and don't count on coffee or tea at breakfast. The enclosed grounds work well for a run or walk, and a little patience and kindness go a long way with the staff. The place was pleasant and peaceful, with genuinely caring people. A few small improvements, especially to breakfast, would make it more comfortable.
