Ithaka Hostel

The location is good, there’s plenty of space in the common areas, and the games are a nice touch. I had the six-bed dorm to myself, which was a bonus, and I recommend paying more for the sea-view balcony room over the city view. Breakfast was included, and it looked like free towels were available at reception. Still, there were only two bathrooms with toilets and showers for at least two or three dorms, which is very few in high season. The bathroom and one of the men’s dorms smelled really, really bad. Hostel guests can’t use the elevator, which is fine when backpacking but hard with luggage or mobility issues. The breakfast could be better: it’s described as traditional Egyptian, so I expected foul or ta3amia, but got an omelet, mashed potatoes, vegetables, one leaf of bread, and Halawa. There are no hot drinks included; you pay at the bar, for example 10le for tea, 25 for V cola, or 15 for a big bottle of water. I also don’t understand how a hostel in 2025 has no privacy curtains in the dorms. Not bad, but not good either. It may be the best Alexandria has for a hostel, and the location is still good, so I’d stay again if it were the only option. They ask for a 200le deposit for a lock.

A safe, affordable place in a central location, with a great atmosphere. The staff are really friendly, the breakfast is tasty, and the beds are comfortable and come with lockers. There’s hot water and reception is open 24 hours. Fully recommend!

The relaxed, friendly atmosphere was great for meeting people, and the rooms were clean, cozy, and comfortable. The location is wonderful, close to the sea and everything you need. Staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, always glad to help. I really enjoyed staying here.

The location is a huge plus, right in the city center with a sea view. Rooms are cozy and good value for what you pay. It’s a great fit if you’re traveling solo and want to meet other travelers, and solo women will feel safe here if that’s a concern. The staff were so kind and generous.
