The Grand Plaza Hotel

The staff were friendly and professional, and the room was really clean with a lovely sunrise view. I ordered room service twice, and both portions and taste were just right. I’ll definitely come back. Highly recommended.

We arrived for a multi-day stay in Alexandria that we had booked through Booking.com, but the hotel refused to check us in because they wanted specific proof of marriage. That requirement had never been disclosed or asked for during booking, and the refusal felt arbitrary and unjustified. We were told the accounting department would contact us, but they never did. Booking.com messages also got no response. We ended up without a room or any help, and without a refund, even though we had done nothing wrong. I find this unacceptable from both a contract and consumer rights standpoint. A well-rated, reputable hotel should be transparent and accountable, but this one failed on both. I can't recommend it. If zero stars were possible, that would be my rating. Shame on you.

It’s a very good place to stay, but noisy kids were running around the halls. I’d give it five stars if customer service hadn’t kept calling to check whether everything was okay and waking us up.

The welcome at check-in was pleasant, and room service had plenty of fresh, tasty food options. My first impressions of the hotel are still not great, though. I sat for 30 minutes with a disappointing, very limited self-service buffet, and nobody offered to explain the facilities or food selection, or bring refreshments. Five or six employees were standing around talking loudly and occasionally checking whether I was eating. There was little attention to paying guests, while staff seemed more interested in laughing and chatting together. I left and went back to my room for a drink. It was hugely disappointing, and I considered checking out and moving to another hotel.
