I’ve never left a negative review before, but this stay raised serious concerns for me about honesty, professionalism, and basic respect. The room was the biggest issue. The listing showed a larger room with a balcony and a much nicer bathroom. What I got was smaller, had no balcony, and didn’t look like the photos. When I raised it the next morning, the host, Ahmed, said he had told me the night before that I’d be in a different room and that I’d agreed. That is not true. I had not agreed to that. I booked on Airbnb and contacted support. They handled it professionally and asked for evidence. I recorded one continuous video from reception to the room, showing the difference from the listing photos. After reviewing it, Airbnb decided the accommodation didn’t match the listing and arranged a partial refund for the first night and a full refund for the other six nights. I packed up and left immediately after that. The first night was already difficult. I arrived in the early hours, exhausted after travelling from Shanghai, but instead of letting me check in and rest, Ahmed kept trying to sell me extra services at what seemed like highly inflated prices. One was a $90 USD return trip to the pyramids with a guide, without clear information about the guide or the service. Later I arranged a return trip between downtown Cairo and the pyramids by Uber for about $9 USD total, a fraction of the quote, and went at my own pace. I said several times I wasn’t interested and just wanted my room. I only got to go to it after insisting firmly. There was also the airport transfer. Before I arrived, the host offered it for $15 USD, while an Uber for the same trip costs about $5 USD. My connecting flight was delayed and I told the host promptly. Still, the driver said he’d been waiting for hours because nobody had updated him, creating needless tension. When I arrived, he also said he’d been paid very little and asked me for extra money on top of the agreed $15. At checkout, I said I felt the situation had been handled badly. The host replied that he didn’t need to respect people if he didn’t want to, then made a deeply disturbing comment about not respecting Jewish people. When I questioned him, he suddenly claimed he couldn’t speak English, despite having communicated fluently with me earlier that morning. I’m writing this to help future guests make an informed choice. Confirm the room details in writing before arrival, and be cautious if you’re pressured to buy additional paid services.

The location is very central, Wi-Fi worked reliably, and having reception open 24/7 is useful. Breakfast was acceptable and brought to the room. Ahmed at check-in was especially friendly and accommodating, and offered to be available for questions. But as the stay went on, the bad experiences outweighed those positives. The room smelled musty when I arrived, and the honeymoon welcome I’d requested in advance wasn’t prepared. After the first night I found insects in the bathroom. I reported them, but they were still there over the following days. The response to my complaint wasn’t satisfactory either, I was just pointed to existing hotel reviews. A lot of the room’s fixtures were in poor shape. The shower handle was broken and kept falling, hot water came and went, the bed squeaked whenever I moved, and the toilet rattled when I sat on it. The bedroom light flickered, and on the last day the phone for reception stopped working. The walls were also extremely thin, so hallway and neighboring-room noise, including a crying baby, came through clearly despite the hotel being advertised as soundproof. There was no in-room safe, even though the listing said there would be one.

For what you pay, it’s a decent place in downtown. Dima, the manager, was great and very helpful. The bathrooms didn’t have hair conditioner or body lotion. Uber drops you on the Main Street, about 100ft from the hotel, rather than right outside. The hotel is on the 3rd floor of a building with several other hotels on different floors.

The breakfast was very good, and once we ordered it, it arrived in our room quickly. Our room was clean and as described, with a nice-sized TV, and we found the hotel comfortable once we were inside, even though being on the 3rd floor felt a little odd. The location was great, but tricky to find at first, so Mohammed came out to the street to meet us. Dima and Mohammed were fantastic, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. My wife and I had a lovely time at The Imperial Hotel in Cairo. I’d recommend it and would be happy to return.

The location was fine, close to Tahir Square, good restaurants, and juice places. The rooms are large, some have a fridge and microwave, and the bathrooms had hot water. But the hallways smelled funky, the room smelled of cigarette smoke, and it was noisy. The Wi-Fi barely worked. It was so slow I couldn’t cast to the TV, and it went out completely for several hours each day. I was mostly okay with the place until the manager charged us twice on the last night. With the Wi-Fi problems and those sneaky extra charges, I wouldn’t stay again.
