Panorama Hotel is on the 5th floor of a large building, and the staff were very friendly. That kindness couldn't make up for how disappointing the stay was. The reception and rooms are close together, and gaps around the doors let noise travel easily. We could hear everything in the hallway and at reception, so there was hardly any privacy. At night, staff talked and used their phones, making it hard to sleep. We had to bring it up several evenings. Although the hotel advertises itself as non-smoking, staff smoked on the same floor and we could smell cigarettes. Our room had no window and the air felt stale. It was also far below the standard shown in the Booking.com photos. I'm sharing this so future guests don't go through the same disappointment.

Everything there was so dirty. We'd booked a room and emailed ahead to say we'd arrive late at night, and they said that was fine. But when we got to reception, they told us they'd given our room to other guests. One of the worst hotels I've ever seen.

The location is the standout feature of The New City Hotel. Right in downtown Cairo, it let me walk to well-known spots like the Egyptian Museum and Tahrir Square, and the area's lively atmosphere stayed with me. From arrival, the staff were welcoming and attentive, and check-in went smoothly. A real gem.
