What stood out most was how helpful and welcoming the owner, manager, and staff were. Kareem was especially lovely and went out of his way to make us comfortable. A friend accidentally left a bag with a laptop and money at reception. When he came back two hours later, the staff had kept it safe and returned it without hesitation. That honesty and care made our stay unforgettable, and feels rare. The hotel is in central Cairo near Tahrir Square, and the location is ideal. The accommodation was excellent for the very affordable rates. I had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cairo.

The rooms were roomy and comfortable, and everything I needed was just a short walk away. The staff greeted me warmly with a glass of traditional Egyptian tea. I had a very comfortable stay at the Sun Hotel Cairo and would choose it again.

We had to leave because the owner at reception wouldn’t let my Egyptian friend stay in the same room with me, despite my reservation being for two people. He’d started making comments as we approached the desk, apparently assuming we didn’t understand Arabic. The staff were rude, and the whole situation disrupted our plans after returning from a trip abroad. The building’s interior was in terrible shape, dark, dirty, dusty, cluttered, and full of junk. There’s definitely better in Cairo.

Caught downtown during a huge protest in Tahrir Square, I was trying to stay in my room. The owner barged in and forced me out, saying Americans weren’t welcome at his hotel that night. I didn’t want trouble or to pay for a room I couldn’t use, so I calmly asked for a refund in exchange for leaving. Then he surrounded me with about six friends and gave me five minutes to go. I’m a big, ugly guy, so I got out without being raped. I’m not sure a foreign girl would have been as lucky. Enjoy your stay!
