Amarante Pyramids Hotel

Youssef Shabaan was a hero with the football on TV, making sure I didn’t miss a minute. He clearly takes pride in his work, and Amarante are lucky to have him. The service was fantastic, and the hotel has an amazing pool in the heart of Giza. 10/10.

We were disappointed for the price and wouldn’t stay again. The place feels neglected and in poor condition, with rooms that need attention and refurbishment, as the photos show. The pool loungers were in awful shape, and there were pigeons all over the pool area. Staff only seemed attentive when tipped.

The bedroom decor might not suit everyone, but the staff’s kindness and service made up for that for me. The pool area was superb, and the food was great too. As a typical Brit, I tried the fish and chips, and the fish had a lovely crisp batter. The location is great for visiting the pyramids. I also got chatting with the Guest Manager, who told me the hotel is over a century old and that the original owner was an actor from a couple of generations ago. Great service from good people.

The scenery is beautiful, the service was good, and the pool was the main highlight. Still, our room had several problems: the AC didn’t work, water wouldn’t drain in the bathroom, and the Wi-Fi kept disconnecting and usually showed no internet access. There wasn’t enough lighting in the room either. They offered to move us, but we were tired from visiting tourist places and didn’t have time to change rooms. The other things were great, though there’s only a very small chance I’d come back.
