Moon Valley Apartments

We had a terrible stay here, the worst of our three weeks in Egypt, even though the photos and ratings had looked reassuring. We were only there one night. The rooms were dirty: the sheets hadn’t been washed, the bathrooms were grimy, and there was a lot of hair beside the bathtub. Cigarette ash was on the living room table, and the kitchen counter had sticky marks. Staff kept asking us for money, and as we were leaving, the manager said we owed extra for “facilities used.” Breakfast was just bread, cheese, and egg. When we asked for butter, jam, or honey, we were curtly told that was all they served, and nothing else was brought. A few hours after we left, our kids developed lots of bedbug bites on their arms and legs. One child had more than 30.

The owner made our trip special. He showed us around, was always available when we had questions, and became a good friend. He has a heart of gold. The top floor was all ours, with amazing views in every direction. The pool was a lovely temperature, the bathroom was spacious, and the showers were good. The bed looked old but was actually very comfortable. The location is a little off the road, though the hotel can arrange to get you things, and Indrive comes there too, so a taxi arrives quickly. We also found this side of the river much more relaxed. Across the river, people kept asking for money or trying to scam us, while here people seemed to help in a more caring way.

The room was okay, nothing fancy, but the pool and view were a lovely bonus. We had a really nice stay at Moon Valley, mainly thanks to Kumi. He made time for us, showed us around, took us where we wanted to go, and taught us a lot about Luxor. He also offered the same kinds of services as touring companies for a better price. We loved having a private place to come back to after exploring Luxor’s sights. The Nile was visible from the rooftop terrace, with the Valley of the Kings and queens in the other direction. Moon valley apartments is a quiet spot on the West Bank, about a 25-minute walk from Luxor town. A local taxi to the harbour costs £100ep and takes 5-8 minutes, then the local ferry to the East Bank is £50 ep and takes around 10 minutes. Our large, spotless apartment had a balcony, kitchen, lounge with flat screen tv, and a bathroom with both a shower and bath. There are one and two bedroom options. The kitchen has some basic pots, pans, plates, cups, cutlery, and glasses, and they can provide more if you ask. Our host and manager Kumi annd Salama were wonderful and helped us with things we needed, including sugar and a barbee on our first night. We hired bikes in town and explored under our own steam. It took about 30 minutes to reach the Valley of the Kings, 20 minutes to hatshepsuts temple, and 10 minutes fromTnere to the Valley of the queens. Watching balloons float past early in the morning with the mountains behind them was unbelievable. Afterward, a swim and some time relaxing at the apartment felt like heaven.
