Amarina Queen Resort & Aqua Park Marsa Alam

A special thanks to Mr. Gamil at reception for sorting out an issue so professionally. We had a wonderful week at a resort in Marsa Alam. The beach was well kept, the loungers comfortable, and the nearest bar served drinks all day, plus hot dogs and hamburgers in the afternoon. There’s reef rather than sand going into the sea, so bring reef shoes. Snorkeling is reached by a pier, and a lifeguard can lend you a safety jacket. The food was good with lots of tasty choices through the week. Most staff were polite, attentive, and ready to help with a smile. The entertainment team was active in daytime activities and evening shows. Our room was large, the beds comfortable, and cleaning was excellent. Bring mosquito repellent for nighttime. Even though staff do mosquito control, we still found some in the room.

We got to our room before 11am thanks to an early check-in, and it was a great room: spacious, comfortable beds, a sea view, and a lovely terrace. It was only two steps from the beach. The resort is big, so the restaurant and reception were a bit of a walk, through a beautiful garden that staff were always tending and trimming. The beach was a favorite. Sunbeds were very comfortable, towels were provided daily, and there was shallow water as well as a section from the bridge that was ideal for snorkeling. The underwater world was amazing. We also enjoyed Joya SPA, where they did their best to meet our needs with the massage package. VIVA sub offered tours, and you could rent a snorkeling mask for 5€ a day. WiFi was okay, though unavailable in some parts of the hotel, and we didn’t mind since we came to relax. Staff were kind, and the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and water. The food could have had more variety. As a vegetarian, I found it hard to know what contained meat because dishes didn’t always have ingredient labels. We didn’t like the sweets. The transport agency for airport trips was the one negative. The man was unkind, and we nearly missed our flight because he didn’t send the taxi in the morning as agreed. He also seems to be the only transport option there, and the fares are high, 35€ to Marsa Alam city. Still, it was good value for money, and we relaxed and enjoyed our stay. Room number 4107 smelled very unpleasant as soon as I arrived, and the shower never got hot, making the stay uncomfortable. Food quality was extremely poor and often undercooked, especially the chicken, which was sometimes served with blood. Drinks and desserts were poor too, and there was very little variety. Honestly, even a 2-star hotel would have better, more varied food. We complained, but nothing improved. There was no proper service at the beach or pool, and the only snack was a very bad burger sandwich. This was by far my worst hotel experience, and it definitely doesn’t deserve a 5-star rating.

The rooms are okay for the price, but there’s no WiFi in them, and some facilities have really strange opening hours. Staff are friendly, though some get intrusive when trying to sell you things. Food was horrible. We ate Pasta Bob’s pasta four days in a row because it was good, but breakfast, lunch, and dinner were awful, repetitive, and they even managed to mess up the Kofta. Drinks weren’t good either, and the beer was nearly always warm. The snack bar burger hardly deserves to be called a burger. I’d strongly recommend staying away from this resort. I don’t know how it got 8.6/10 on booking.
