Casa Rural Mailan

We found Orio had plenty of places to eat and pick up things for the road, and it's a good base for exploring this lovely area. The host was very friendly and helpful. Our room at the top was very nice, with a lovely terrace where you can sit even in the rain. One issue for taller people is the low ceiling in this bathroom. Breakfast was simple but very good. San Sebastián and the train station are close by, with connections to the city and other places.

The station is only a few minutes on foot, so we left the car behind and took the train to Donostia/San Sebastian, Zarautz, and Zumaia. We stayed for three nights and had an excellent experience. The staff, room, and breakfast were all outstanding. We’ll return when we're in the area again.

The hosts and cook were warm and friendly, and breakfast each morning was ample and clearly popular with other guests. The owners also answered all my questions promptly and were very helpful. The room and bathroom were spotless, and both had a TV. The decor has a charming, old-fashioned feel. Entry is easy, with electronic security codes on every door, so there are no keys to fuss with. Orio is a pretty town, about a 25-minute drive from San Sebastian if you have a car. The train station is a five-minute walk away, with a straightforward 25-minute ride into San Sebastian. I was traveling alone, but the welcoming hosts and very convenient location make me hope to return with my family.

The road is nearby, but the double glazing does a great job and we didn't hear traffic. Parking was easy, and it takes about five minutes to walk into town, then another ten to the beach. We enjoyed two nights at Mailan in a large first-floor room with its own bathroom. The host and cleaner are both lovely, and the guesthouse was comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was generous. Highly recommended.
