Torralbenc, a Small Luxury Hotel of the World

The sunset boat trip was the highlight of our stay at Torralbenc. The captain adjusted the itinerary to suit us, making it feel personal and extraordinary. The spa treatments were the most relaxing we’ve ever had, and every member of staff was helpful, friendly and attentive. We ate beautifully at the property, especially breakfast, which featured fresh local ingredients, and the restaurant team handled every request smoothly. The immaculate grounds made even a walk around the property a joy. It’s an idyllic, scenic place with a serene, authentically Minorcan feel, and we found it luxurious and romantic. Torralbenc was perfect for a rejuvenating getaway, with thoughtful service throughout.

The grounds are stunning and very calming, so that’s the reason to come. Our room, though, was dark and damp, and felt very minimalist and in need of renovation. The restaurant food was decent but the options were limited, and breakfast could be better. The prices are far too high for what you get, including 30 euros for pasta with barely any sauce. I’d choose the property, not the food or rooms.

We were travelling with a baby, and the team made us feel at home with a really warm welcome. The property itself is spectacular, surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. We thought the restaurant was excellent, and breakfast was special too, with most of the products coming from Menorca and the region. Highly recommended.

The setting is lovely, but the way our last day was handled soured what should have been a nice trip. We stayed from 2-7 September and booked three superior rooms for our family, spending a substantial amount at the hotel on lunches, wine tasting and a boat tour arranged through the concierge. Four family members left early on the final morning. Two of us had later flights and planned to check out in the afternoon. The previous night, reception confirmed that two rooms weren’t booked for the following night, and said a late checkout at no cost would be fine. We were told again the next morning that those rooms hadn’t been sold, but then asked to pay €80 to keep them for three hours past the usual checkout time. After spending so much there, that felt like a petty and unnecessary extra charge. Not honoring what the first receptionist promised made it seem that guest satisfaction took a back seat to squeezing out every euro. Charging €80 for three more hours in an unsold room was ludicrous to us. The manager was dismissive when we raised it, and did nothing to resolve the problem. The back and forth with staff ruined our last day and left us feeling the hotel didn’t value its customers. We’d seen mixed reviews before booking, particularly about customer service, but decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt. We regret that now. For the price, we expected much better hospitality and professionalism. We wouldn’t return or recommend it. There are plenty of places in the region offering true luxury without the arrogance and lack of care we experienced.
